The Breakfast Eater

Growing up, I always had breakfast in front of me before starting my day. However, now that I’m an adult, it has become increasingly harder to find time for a meal before leaving out to start my day. In the last few weeks, I have made a promise to myself to eat breakfast every morning and test the results. I have found that I have much more energy and strength plus I’m not dying of hunger pains an hour after leaving home. Eating a healthy breakfast has been proven to aid in weight loss more than those who skip that important first meal of the day. Here are some healthy small breakfast ideas to jump start your day:

Baked Chicken breasts, Delish!

  • Here is what you need:
  • 1-3 chicken breasts( or as many as desired)
    • ¼- ½  cup of melted butter.
    • 1 -1 ½ teaspoon of seasoned salt, or desired condiment ( I use lemon pepper)
    • Oven
    • Aluminum pan
    • Hunger and much love!
  • Directions
  • Preheat oven to 400°F
  • Spray your pan with cooking spray or pour a small amount of melted butter and with a cooking brush, or a napkin cover the bottom slightly. ( less butter, the best)

On The Lake

Another good but surprising way to stay active is to join your friends on the lake. Go ahead and give wakeboarding or water skiing a try, you might just really like it! Wakeskating is a variation of wakeboarding and it’s a lot like skateboarding on water.

I’ve been riding for a few years and it never gets old. We ride behind a jetski, or you can even ride behind a winch if you are in a tight spot. After riding, your arms and legs are extremely worn out if you haven’t done it much so it’s an awesome way of staying active and having fun at the same time. Read the rest of this entry

Hiking Eagle Rock Loop: 26.8 miles of forest, streams and hills

Hiking the ERL (Eagle Rock Loop)  was definitely a challenge. The trail consists of 26.8 miles of trails along nine mountains and the Little Missouri River. It is the longest loop train in the state of Arkansas. Hiking through the shaded trails of mixed hardwood and pine forest on a flat terrain was very pleasant. However, once the elevation started to increase, the fatigue kicked in. On the way down, the trekking poles really came in handy to take the pressure off the kneecaps.

We started the hike at the Albert Pike Recreation Area following the Little Missouri Trail. The scenery in this hike was wonderful, along with the sound of the rushing river. Before making camp for the first night, we stopped at Eagle Rock Vista overlook, which provided great views of the Viles Valley. It was a great opportunity to take pictures. The next day, we passed through Winding Stairs formation, a scenic area with a swimming hole. However, we didn’t have enough time to spend in that beautiful spot, since the sun was setting and we needed to make camp for the second night. Read the rest of this entry

H2O – How much water do you drink?

Many of us tend to drink soda and other sweet drinks when we get thirsty; forgetting that water is our number one form of healthy drink and hydration that we can have.

But, why is water good for our body?  Did you know that water can help you with weight-loss and energy along with other positive effects in your body.

By saying water can help you with weight-loss I do not mean doing the extreme water diet, in which you do nothing else but drink water for three days. NO, NO, NO.

H2O is a fantastic form of hydration, and the best thing … it contains zero calories. By replacing sodas, juice, liquor, or any other type of sweet drinks with water you are minimizing the calorie intake per day. Also, there are times in which we are thirsty, but because our thirst mechanism is not as strong as the one for hunger and has similar symptoms such as feeling weak, dizzy, etc… it is easy to confuse these two.  Water can work as a suppressant and Read the rest of this entry

Active At Work

When it comes to finding ways to stay active, it’s important to stay motivated and to enjoy what you’re doing. A great thing about running or walking a 5K is that you gain awareness and raise money for good causes.

There are many places you can go to run a 5k worldwide. A 5K is approximately 3.1 miles, so it can be a bit intimidating to some people but don’t let that stop you from at least trying it because you will meet a ton of fun people and you might end up liking it and enjoying the community. Horse Back Riding: a fun way to exercise

Often when we hear the word “exercise”, what comes to mind is a person working out at a gym, or practicing a competitive sport. However, many things that we do for fun are also a disguised form of exercise. Take for example horseback riding.

Recently, I went with a group of friends to Marshall Creek Ranch, near Grape Vine, TX. We went there with the idea of having some fun and recreation. I never imagined that my muscles would be so sore after an hour and a half of horseback riding. The reality is, that besides being a great way to spend a Sunday afternoon with some friends, horseback riding is a good form of exercise. Read the rest of this entry

Eating Healthy while Traveling

As a person who is trying to eat healthier and make better food choices, I was worried about my upcoming trip to Italy. The greatest concern was not being able to eat healthy while on the road. However, I found that with a little research, eating healthy is possible, although not easy to find. Eating organic food is important to me because that means there are no chemicals, GMO’s and /or growth hormones in the food.

In a recent visit to San Gimignano, I visited Fattoria Poggio Alloro, an organic farm in a beautiful setting surrounded by vineyards, olive groves, and fields. The farm produces wine, oil, and cereals. My dinner consisted of homemade pasta, olive oil, four different types of wine, a variety of cheeses, and cured meats. When I tasted the food, I could immediately notice a difference. This was not your regular supermarket pasta. This one tasted as something my grandma would make. Read the rest of this entry
